What a fantastic week it has been!
Although it is a ‘new normal’ for everyone under Alert Level 2, the school has come alive now that most of our students are back. I’ve really enjoyed talking to students across the week, hearing about their recent experiences and their happiness to be back at school with their friends. There has been a real sense of purpose and energy throughout the school.

We found out last week that NZQA has delayed the end-of-year exams for senior students by 10 days – they will now begin on November 16th. This is good news because we have now gained an additional two weeks of teaching and learning time for our senior students. Our practice exams which are usually held near the end of term 3, will now be at the beginning of term 4 and I believe that this will make a really positive difference to our students’ achievement.

Another piece of great news came through this week in the form of additional funding from the Ministry of Education. The refurbishment of our library is nearly complete and with the additional funding, our library will now open directly into a grassed courtyard with spaces for students to sit and relax.

Furthermore, this additional funding will allow for specialist soundproofing throughout the classrooms and practice rooms in our music department. This will make a huge difference to the amount and quality of rehearsal and performance that can happen this year, as well as allowing us to further explore a variety of sound recording technologies.
