Local Artists’ Gift

Educational Purposes
During exam week our Head of Art, Rogan James, was excited to meet a local Titirangi Artist who has kindly donated a beautiful Tui to the department.

Approximately 10 years ago this Tui was found by the artist who asked permission from Green Bay High School to get it taxidermied under the ‘Educational Purposes’ clause. Since then it has been beautifully cared for, displayed under glass and used as part of the Artist’s practice.

The Tui’s arrival at the school is extremely fortuitous with the department shifting the Year 11 Visual Art theme to better reflect our unique position next to the Waitakere ranges in 2020. We aim to include both native flora and fauna and our new Tui will no doubt feature as a key element within students work.

We feel very privileged to have this special taonga as part of our still life collection and know it will be a treasured part of the department for years to come.
