Closing the gender gap
A free ChangemakeHer workshop sponsored by the Whau local board and designed specifically for Year 9 and Year 10 girls to ignite their interest in a STEAM career was a huge success – sparking great interest and confidence in young leaders of tomorrow.

As well as learning about how STEAM subjects can provide young women with the opportunity to lead change, the group also had some hands on learning – including controlling a Sphero Bolt robot thereby demonstrating the use of Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, Entrepreneurship and Leadership.

91% of participants now have more confidence in themselves after attending the workshop. General feedback received such as: “…there aren’t nearly enough women who are in charge and CEO’s. A lot of the time, women are stereotyped to do certain jobs, however we need more women to stand out and do what they are passionate about…” our girls are on the right track to close the gender gap!
