Year 10 Science students (10SIN) were involved in a unit of work involving investigations with rockets as a context. Students were able to choose a variable to investigate (blend of fuel, ratio of diameter to length, size of thrust nozzle) and made their rocket engines.

Working in groups, students were heavily involved in designing and constructing the rocket engines and a remote electronic ignition system with safety interlocks.

They also researched and made a device using electronics to measure distance, investigated the most reliable fuses to use and built the capsule to safely carry the engines while attached to a guidewire.
