Electric trains are now servicing the Western Line, and these trains are much faster and quieter than the old diesel ones.

Rail Safety Week 2015 is from 10th to 16th August. KiwiRail and TrackSAFE are asking whanau and caregivers to talk to their children about staying safe around the railway:

The new electric trains in Auckland are faster and quieter trains can come from both directions at any time, and in quick succession.

Please  stay alert, remove headphones, look both ways for trains and always wait for the bells and lights to stop before crossing the track.

The only safe and legal place to cross tracks is at a designated level crossing.

Check out tracksafe.co.nz for practical tips on how to stay safe around the railway – there’s even a free downloadable simulator – experience being a train driver!
