Damiano Agnew (Year 12) and Ella Walker (Year 13) went on the 21 day Outward Bound Mind Body and Soul course with the help of a scholarship offered to Green Bay High School by the Duncan Charitable Trust.

The course focused on self growth and development through a number of activities such as sailing, tramping, kayaking, rock climbing and lots of running!

“Our days were long and tiresome but being part of a diverse group of 13 students, who have now became my lifelong friends, made it so worth while,” says Ella.

Although well and truly back into the school life, with half of Term 3 finished already, Ella says she is surprised at how much the Outward Bound journey continues to influence her.

“I’m shocked as to how much it’s affected me. I’m the best version of myself and it’s all thanks to the experience I had, the people I met along the way and my awesome instructors at Outward Bound.”

A particular saying that Ella connects with is a quote one of the instructors would often say: “Are you unsafe or just uncomfortable?” helping Ella to realise that although she was faced with a lot of challenges, it was more to do with just being out of her comfort zone.

“I was pushed to my limits but came out 10 times stronger which has allowed me to recognize my potential and I’m continuing to step outside of my comfort zone more and more. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without having this experience and I couldn’t be happier that I was given this opportunity and could not recommend it enough.”

Damiano says the Outward Bound journey has allowed him to grow more as a person and he feels blessed to have been able to be in the presence of this group of young people for 21 days.

“It is an opportunity I wish everyone could experience once in their lifetime.”
