Principal Retirement

Message from the Board of Trustees (May 2018)
Our Principal Morag Hutchinson has formally advised the Board of her decision to retire from the position of Principal of Green Bay High School at the end of this year.

She is now into her 14th year of leading the school and there are very strong indications that the school is performing well. This was certainly confirmed in our most recent ERO Report last year. She believes the end of the year is a good time to hand over the privilege and responsibility of principalship to a new leader to take the school on to its next stage of development.

She wanted to give the Board the longest possible notice of this decision, allowing sufficient time to carry out a recruitment and transition process for a new principal to commence at the start of the school year in 2019. The Board appreciates having time to ensure this process is robust and provides the best possible outcomes for our school community. To that end it is currently engaged in negotiations with some recruitment companies that specialise in supporting Boards in principal appointments.

In addition, experienced current Board members have indicated they will make themselves available for the Board elections next year. This will provide the opportunity for stability and continuity in school governance during a period of transition for the new principal.

There are still many months before Morag finally steps down so it will be ‘business as usual’ for her until her term is complete. She has assured the Board that her commitment to the school will remain as determined as it always has been. Her words to the Board were: Leading our school has been the highlight of my 43 year career in education, and that won’t ever change.
