Senior dance students and a few privileged junior dancers enjoyed a two hour workshop with 6 dancers from the Royal New Zealand Ballet as part of senior Dance’s preparation for external exams.

It is rare opportunity that this extremely busy company have time to work with high school students. The six dancers Laura Jones, Oscar Holscher, William Fitzgerald, Hayley Donnison, Peng Fei Jiang, Lucy Green and organiser Pagan Dorgan ran the students through a contemporary ballet warm up, across the floor exercises, repertoire from “Allegro” and finally worked in small groups to create their own choreography. The students particularly enjoyed the close interaction with the professional dancers as each student group of 6-8 had 1 or 2 of the RNZB dancers to work with. The choreography was, as Pagan said: “extremely high quality” and so will be rehearsed and performed at the upcoming Senior Dance showcase “Dance Your Heart Out” on Wednesday October 29th at the Green Bay High School auditorium.

The Senior Dance Showcase will be a sensational night, with the NEW GBHS Kapa Haka group also performing live on stage! (if you are interested in joining the Kapa Haka group, it’s not too late – simply contact whaea Medadane Kipa for more information.
