Seiryo High School

Cultural learning
Green Bay High School offers a warm welcome to our visiting students from Seiryo High School, Sendai, Japan.

A mixed group of 29 students who are in the equivalent of our Year 12 are staying in Auckland for a short while and are staying with host families co-ordinated by a number of schools.

Each student has been buddied with a GBHS student – this is a valuable opportunity to develop leadership skills, learn about other cultures and start on the path of becoming a global citizen.

It has been heartwarming to hear their conversations and watch as the students participate in a variety of activities taking place throughout the school. One of our Green Bay buddies (Jamie Hayden, Year 10) made a pavlova and brought it to school to share!

During the week, our visitors have taken part in a sports exchange with Mr Clemas’ 10SPS class and learned to play forward rugby, and have also learned some Maori culture with whaea Sharon Muru and her class on Friday afternoon.

A Sayonnara, or farewell, is scheduled to commence at 4pm on Monday 4th December with host families and their guests. For more information, please contact Katrina Piezzo by email or phone 817-8173 ext 243.
