Visual Arts Teacher

Art Department

Having a fine eye for detail and a passion for lifelong learning, C-J Southgate ticks all the right boxes to teach Visual Arts at Green Bay High School.

We warmly welcome C-J as she steps into the class for the first time as a beginning teacher. Having recently completed a three year Bachelor of Visual Arts degree with a Major in Photography and Minor in Image Practice/Contemporary Practice at Auckland University of Technology and an additional Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Auckland. Teaching is definitely in the blood for C-J, following in the footsteps of her father, Mr Southgate, who is a SENCo at neighbouring Green Bay School, and her sister, who is a college Dance teacher.

“I’m currently a Converse Brand Ambassador which allows me to express my passion for the creative arts. I’ve been given opportunities to curate work that captures different concepts. My recent project work featured in Monster Children magazine, December 2019.”

C-J appreciates the support she has already been shown by her fellow staff and is looking forward to helping her students develop their creativity and passion for learning, using digital and analogue photography and extending Photoshop skills.

“Right from the start, when I first stepped into Green Bay High School. I felt very supported from the Staff and especially from my colleagues in the Art Department. My senior students helped me set up our classroom and already we were establishing a connection which I hope will continue to grow and go from strength to strength.”

As an all-rounder for the Women’s Auckland Cricket team for two years, C-J would like to pass on her love of the sport and is also looking forward to becoming involved with school sports teams!
