Green Bay High School has hosted visiting students from Thailand for the past month. We wish them safe travels as they depart to go home to Thailand tomorrow.

International student, Ploy (Monsupa Songmuang) wrote the following report. She is pictured above with her buddy, Enya Murphy, and host mother, Clare Thomas.

Kia Ora everyone! My name is Ploy. I am a 16 year old from Thailand who wanted to step out of her comfort zone…and so during my summer break I decided to push the limits a bit further and challenge myself.

This meant travelling 10,000 kilometres away from my home in Bangkok Thailand to spend 4 weeks in New Zealand – a completely foreign country to me.

At first I found everything was so different and difficult to get used to, but my stay in NZ has been full of joy and happiness. I have had so much fun and learned a lot about this amazing country, its people and culture. I have also learned about myself and my own country. I am not going to say I haven’t missed Thailand but I have had an incredible experience here.

My special thanks to Green Bay High School for making my first trip abroad one of the most memorable trips of my life – for the friendliness and warmth I’ve received from my buddy, friends and homestay. For that I will be forever grateful.

At the end of the day ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ and so before I knew it, it is time to go home. I have learned that ‘Wherever you go keep an open mind, for people will welcome you with their open hearts.
