Fond Farewell

International Students
Green Bay High School’s International department hosted a farewell dinner for eight students who have completed their schooling with us.

It was an emotional night with students showing their talents and putting on a few items. Marianne Gerber (France) played her harp, Laura Borges Goulart (Brazilian) played her guitar and Ruth Ebenbichler (Austrian) gave the following speech:

Last week I got asked by Katrina: ‘What did you learn during your time here in NZ?’ I thought a lot about that over the past few days and the more I thought about it the harder it was to pick out one thing. I learned that family is not only defined by blood. I learned that language is only a small part of understanding others. I learned so much about many different people and cultures, but I think the most important thing I learned here was:
He aha te mea nui o te ao?
Maakuu e kii,
he tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
What is most important in the world?
I will say, it is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
They say that is the price you pay when traveling: You will never be completely home again because part of you is always elsewhere. They are right. But I would not do a single thing differently.
Thank you Green Bay High School for the amazing time, your support and your love.
