We are the winners!

Green Bay High School is very pleased to announce that we are winners of the Senior EPro8 regional heats and have qualified for the Grand Final.

Year 11 students Cosmo Zavoda, Piero Grosman, Emilie Johnson and Trillian Spavin-Little (pictured above) completed a series of timed engineering challenges claiming 1st place in their competition.

Every year over 10,000 students from 900 schools from throughout New Zealand take part in EPro8, an energetic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) problem solving race.

The ever-present scientific and technological society that we live in today means that the biggest growth areas worldwide are in occupations linked to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.

Working in teams of four, our young scientists were given access to a collection of assorted construction and electronic components and had to choose a series of challenges to complete within a three hour period. The harder the challenge, the more points it is worth.

Teams compete to solve practical problems by inventing and building a machine to complete simple tasks – using engineering skills such as pulleys, motors, gears, wheels and axles while also incorporating basic electronic circuits and practical maths.

Epro8 are held throughout New Zealand. The top teams from each heat qualify for the regional semifinals and a regional grand final. The winning team is then crowned the region’s EPro8 Challenge Champion. We wish our team all the best as they head into the regional grand final!
