Issue 1

7 February 2020
2020 at Green Bay High School is off to a fantastic start – the school is in great heart and this was particularly evident on Monday at our pōwhiri for new students, whānau and staff members. We welcomed 370 new Year 9 students which is our largest ever cohort and I have really enjoyed watching them getting to know their way around our school.

We are in the fortunate position of being fully staffed and I know that the new staff we welcomed this year will add incredible value to our school. You can meet some of our new staff in this week’s school newsletter, and we look forward to sharing more information about each of them over the next few weeks.

We are celebrating some great NCEA results and I want to congratulate all our senior students in 2019 who worked hard to achieve these results. Our overall pass rates in 2019 saw us sitting above decile 8-10 averages at Level 1, 2 and 3 and for University Entrance. I am also exceptionally proud of the Year 13 students who were awarded subject scholarships:

Katie Howlett – Chemistry & Physics
Michael Fray – Chemistry
Joshua Crellin – Physics
Caitlin McGall – Photography
Sara Cross – Painting
Kayla Newman – Design

Next week sees a lot of our co-curricular activities starting up – sports, music, drama, dance as well as the Enviro Club, Youth Cyber Zone and many others. Encourage your son or daughter to get involved and really make the most of this year.

Have a great weekend.
Fiona Barker, PRINCIPAL
